Community Events Update

Trowell Parish Council would like to provide an update regarding the future of community events.

Over the past year, the Council has experienced a significant increase in the volume and nature of engagement and correspondence, much of which has required considerable time, attention and, in some cases, external professional advice. In addition, there have been instances which have raised concerns regarding the appropriateness of the environment in which Council activities are delivered.

Taken together, these factors have created an increasingly difficult and challenging environment for those involved in organising and supporting community events.

These pressures have had a direct impact on the Council’s capacity and, importantly, on the ability to ensure that events can be delivered in a safe and appropriate manner for organisers, volunteers and attendees.

Community events remain an important part of village life. However, they are delivered through the significant time and effort of a very limited number of councillors and volunteers, and are self-funded through activities such as quiz nights and other fundraising events.

The continued delivery of these events depends not only on having sufficient capacity and support, but also on ensuring that a safe, supportive and appropriate environment is in place. At present, the Council is carefully considering whether it is able to continue delivering these activities in a way that meets those expectations.

No decision has been made at this time; however, the position is under active review and will be updated in due course.
