Boundary Brook Flooding Update – Meeting with Nottinghamshire County Council

On 13 May, representatives from the Parish Council met with Officers from Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) to discuss ongoing concerns around Boundary Brook and local flooding.

The group walked the brook from Pit Lane to the railway bridge, reviewing key areas and discussing potential Natural Flood Management (NFM) options. Some of these can be delivered by NCC alone, while others would require collaboration with the Environment Agency (EA).

NCC has now installed a water level gauge near the railway bridge. While it records valuable data, the information must currently be manually downloaded by NCC staff and cannot be shared in real time.

The situation is complex due to multiple landowners, including NCC, Broxtowe Borough Council, Peveril Homes, and developers behind the Crematorium and Coventry Lane. NCC is working to identify and engage with all relevant parties.

There may be funding opportunities through joint efforts with the EA. NCC staff are committed to progressing this work and will keep the Parish Council updated.

While a natural flood management scheme won’t eliminate flooding, it could reduce peak water flows by around 20%, helping to lower the risk during heavy rainfall.

We’re sharing this update to ensure all residents are kept informed about the steps being taken to address flooding concerns in our community.

We’ll continue to provide updates as this important work progresses.
